Follow these steps to start exploring your photo library date by date using Gallery's Calendar View and Story View features.
Open Gallery – Photo Locker from the App Store. In the bottom navigation bar, tap the 📅 Calendar tab to enter the calendar view.
Every date with photos shows a small orange dot beneath the number. Dates without photos are plain. The more photos on a day, the more prominent the indicator.
Tap any highlighted date to instantly open a grid of every photo taken on that specific day. Scroll, zoom, and tap to view full screen - all from a single date tap.
Swipe left or right to move between months. Pinch out on the calendar to switch to a Year View showing all 12 months with photo density at a glance.
Tap the Story View button at the top of the Calendar tab. You'll see curated memory cards - Today's Memories, This Day in History, and Recent Highlights.
Tap any Story card to open a full-screen photo slideshow of those memories. Tap the play button to auto-advance through photos with smooth transitions.
Gallery's Calendar View is powered by metadata indexing, virtual rendering, and smart curation - all on your device, completely offline.
To build the calendar, Gallery reads only the date metadata (EXIF timestamp) of each photo - not the full image data. This means even a library of 20,000 photos can be indexed and displayed on the calendar in under a second.
When you tap a date and view that day's photos, Gallery uses virtual list rendering - only loading and displaying thumbnails that are currently on screen. Scrolling through 200 photos from a single day stays perfectly smooth.
"This Day in History" works by querying your library for all photos whose EXIF day and month match today's date, grouped by year. "Highlights" selects photos using a quality score that considers resolution, blur detection, and scene variety to surface your best shots.
All date analysis, Story curation, and calendar building happens entirely on your iPhone. Your photo timeline is private - it never leaves your device and requires no internet connection.
If you use iCloud Photos, Gallery's Calendar View seamlessly includes those photos too - showing their original capture dates rather than download dates, so your timeline is always accurate across all devices.

Yes - Calendar View works with your entire existing photo library the moment you open Gallery. There's no setup, no importing, and no syncing required. Gallery reads your iPhone's native photo library (the same photos you see in Apple Photos) and maps them to the calendar using their original capture dates. If a photo was taken 5 years ago, it will appear on its original date 5 years ago on the calendar.
Apple Photos Memories are generated infrequently (typically once a week or less) and are limited to curated video slideshows. Gallery's Calendar View gives you full date-by-date control - tap any specific date and instantly see its photos. Story View updates daily, showing "This Day in History" every single day. You also get Year View to see your entire photo history at a glance, which Apple Photos doesn't offer in this form.
Absolutely. Gallery's Calendar View covers your entire photo history - from the very first photo in your library to today. Pinch to zoom out to Year View, navigate to any past year, then tap the specific month and date. The app will instantly show all photos from that exact date. Some users use this to find photos from special events like birthdays or anniversaries with just two or three taps.
Yes. "This Day in History" shows photos taken on today's day and month across all available years in your library. If you only started taking iPhone photos 2 years ago, it will show photos from those 2 years. If today happens to be a day with no historical photos in your library, the section will indicate that and instead show nearby dates with photos. The feature is always as rich as your photo history allows.
No internet is ever required. Calendar View, Story View, "This Day in History", and all photo browsing are entirely on-device. Gallery – Photo Locker is a free download with no mandatory subscription. All core features including Calendar View are available without any purchase.
There's no limit. Calendar View covers 100% of your photo library history - whether your oldest photo is from last year or from 2009 when iPhone photos began. The Year View lets you scroll back through every year you have photos for, and the calendar accurately shows which specific dates had photos taken, regardless of how long ago.
Every photo has a day. Gallery's Calendar View helps you find it, relive it, and share it - instantly. Download free and start exploring your photo timeline today.
